The Black & Decker LDX120C 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Drill/Driver is an excellent cordless drill for those looking for a basic “around the house” drill. It’s not going to get your heavy constructions jobs done but it’s great for hanging pictures, fixing drawers, and other smaller tasks that a home owner would want a drill for. This cordless drill is great for the price.
Features of the Black & Decker LDX120C 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Drill / Driver
Although this drill does not quite have all of the features of the higher end cordless drills, it has everything a homeowner, hobbyist, or D-I-Yer could want in a drill for light tasks.
With a 20 volt Lithium Ion battery, this drill has a lot of power packed into it. Lithium Ion batteries hold a charge much longer than a traditional NiCAD battery, and they charge a lot quicker as well. Not only that but they are smaller, lighter, more compact, and holds a charge a lot longer than the NiCADs. This drill has a torque of 115 inch-pounds which is plenty for screwing and light drilling applications. Another benefit of the Lithium Ion battery is that you can leave it on the charger without damaging the battery.
This drill has only one speed setting, but like most modern cordless drills the speed can be controlled by the amount of pressure that you apply to the trigger. The drill speed goes from 0 to 650 rpm, depending on the pressure. This is enough to fasten screws and do some light drilling, but it’s not quiet fast enough for heavier drilling tasks. Great for around the house, not so great for a professional contractor.
The Black & Decker LDX120C has a ratcheting keyless chuck that is a 3/8″. The clutch has 11 different settings that are ideal for a wide range of fastening applications. There’s a great setting for drywall so you don’t end up screwing in too deep. The chuck is a bit smaller than the cordless drills meant for heavier construction, but one again it’s a drill meant for lightweight tasks around the house.
Comfort & Grip
Weighing in at 6.45 pounds when the battery is in place, it is lightweight enough to use for extended amounts of time with minimal arm fatigue. It is compact enough to fit into tight areas and confined spaces such as cabinet corners and drawers. The handle has a soft rubber anti-slip grip that is very comfortable and this drill will stay in your hand easily due to the grip, the weight, and the shape of the handle. Some people have said that it is not as comfortable as their high end cordless drills, but that is to be expected since the cost of this drill is much lower than the top of the line cordless drill.
One thing you’ll find on this drill that is pretty much standard on modern drills, is a LED Work Light. This little bright light will effectively light up your working area in those dark spaces where you need to drill or fasten. The light is always on when you’re using the drill, even when it’s light enough that you don’t need it, but since it is a LED light it will last practically forever and it’s great to have when you do need it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this drill come with a fast charger?
The answer is no, but the charger will fully charge the lithium ion battery in about 4 hours, which is plenty of time as long as you charge it while using a different battery. Since this drill comes with only one battery, we recommend buying a second battery at the same time you buy this drill so you can alternate them and never run out of juice. Unless you forget to charge them entirely of course!
Does this cordless drill come with an extra battery?
No. It only comes with a single battery, which it part of the reason for the low price. We do however recommend purchasing a second battery to use while the dead battery is charging.
It the drill rotation reversable?
Yes. You can vary the direction with a simple flick of a switch.
What is included in the box?
When you open up your Black & Decker LDX120C 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Drill/Driver box for the first time, you’ll find the drill. a 20v lithium ion battery, a basic charger. the instruction manual, and a dual sided screwdriver bit with a flat head and a phillips head.
Should You Buy the Black & Decker LDX120C 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill?
It comes down to this. If you are looking for an inexpensive yet reliable cordless drill for light fastening and drilling work, that this drill might be exactly what you need. It’s great for getting into tight spaces and has more than enough power to get the job done. We do recommend buying a spare battery since it only comes with one, so you can have one charging while you use the other. Overall it’s a great light duty drill at an affordable price.
