Have you cheaped out on drill bits (just like me) before and now have multiple partial sets of crappy drill bits? You’ve been through a lot!

Let’s admit it! We’ve all been there.

I know I have, and I have a solution for that!

As a DIYer, I own all sorts of drill bits and didn’t bother buying new ones until they bent or broke totally, and the collection ranges from Dewalt, harbor freight, and random Chinese-made bits.

So, when it comes to drilling, the quality of Chinese-made bits, for sure, can be hit or miss. But American Made Bits are different because most of these bits are made of Hi-Molybdenum tool steel means that they hold their edge much longer than other drills, so you won’t have to keep replacing them as often. They’re also shiny and sharp, o your holes will look great! That’s why I love hardware that’s made in the USA.

After getting frustrated by trying cheap gold-colored economy or mixed-quality drill bits, I finally searched for the best U.S.-made bits within my budget, and these were a revelation – made in the USA and designed to be used by anyone who needs to drill holes in anything, including thick steel plates and other heavy materials.

Check out these American-made drill bits; they’ll cut through anything on the job site or at home, so don’t waste your time with other brands—just try these out!

I have reviewed these USA- made drill bit brands to help you find your dream drill bits without having to spend too much time or money on them.

Drill America isn’t a flyby company, and it’s been around for quite some time since 1923. Currently, working worldwide with its distinctive manufacturing plants in America, the UK, and Asia.

So, first of all, I’m going to talk about the overall look and quality of the drill bit, and looking at the grind and tip, I must say they are really nicely done and feel quite heavy as compared to the other cheap drill bits which work once in a while and tend to break easily because they are made of cheap quality steel, and mostly the heat-treating process isn’t done correctly, so these cheap drill bits become very hard and brittle and breaks on you. With its black oxide coating and gold plating, this high-speed steel drill bit will stand out from the rest by looking stylish and performing flawlessly. Its black oxide coating resists corrosion while also providing a smooth finish.

The Drill America Bit is a tough spiral shank bit with three sides that make it easier to drill through stainless steel. It won’t leave a rough edge or cause wear to your surfaces because it has a wear-resistant round shape with a smooth end. The drill bits are protected by abrasion-resistant black oxide coating, and they have an incredibly long life even when used on hard materials.

Apart from stainless steel, it’s quite helpful for iron and bronze projects and drilling into wood. If your project requires  metal drilling often, this tiny workhorse will outperform well and produces professional results.

These drill bits come in a solid plastic box where every bit is placed well in an individual bit holder, and the only problem is that the size numbers of these bits are not quite visible. It’d be good if they had marked the sizes with white color, it could be far easier to read the sizes. Also, it has a belt clip so you can easily clip on your tool belt while working. The drill bits have a nice shine and a split point with 135 tips. The split point means that you have another cut in the middle of the drill point, which starts cutting immediately and won’t let the drill walk during cutting a round surface, while the regular drill doesn’t have that split point, so it just goes on pushing on the surface instead of cutting.

Pros

  • Easy to drill on a hard surface
  • 135 split points for reduced walking
  • High-quality steel with a black oxide coating prevents the drill bit from corrosion
  • Solid round-shaped bit holder box.

Cons

  • Hard to read drill bit size numbers.

What do we like about the drill America drill bit set?
This is the perfect tool for everyone, from DIYers who want to save time by using their own drills as well as professionals who work on metal projects every day. This tiny workhorse is not only super-fast at drilling through metal without breaking or jamming up, but it also ensures that there are no rough edges left behind when you’re done drilling holes in stainless steel or iron or whatever else your project requires!
If you’re drained of spending hours trying to find the right drill bit for the job or wondering if some of those other drill bits are worth their price tag, this is the product for you!

You want it done right, whether it’s a new deck or a new sink. It’s not just about finding the right size drill bit; it’s also about having the correct type of tool steel in your drill bit. The proper steel tool will ensure that your drilling is precise and efficient. So, if you need a drill that can handle tough applications like high temperatures or low humidity, look no further than Viking Drill and Tool!

Viking drill has a 74,000-square-foot St. Paul, Minnesota, manufacturing facility explicitly designed for the task of efficient and high-quality cutting tool manufacturing. They use the world’s finest raw materials, which meet the rigorous qualifications of NAS 907, a standard recognized as the most stringent in the industry. That enables Viking drill and tools to produce drills with tighter tolerances than ever before—even when it comes to standards like those set by National Aerospace Standard (NAS) 907.

That’s where the Viking Drill and Tool 44150 SP-29 Drill Set comes with Hi Molybdenum tool steel with Gold Oxide to ensure that your drilling is precise and efficient—so you can spend less time searching for that perfect angle or position for accurate drilling—and its 135-Degree Split Point will make holes that are perfectly sized for your Jobsite. You’ll never have to worry about oversize holes again!

If you want or need professional-grade bits, try these. They’re expensive but worth the money because they’re razor sharp and well made. They’ll last longer than your average bits and won’t walk on steel like most other bits. You’ll, like me, instantly get ponied up for these drill bits if tired of using junk bits.

Pros

  • The bits are constructed with Hi Molybdenum steel with a gold oxide finish, cut like butter, and remain sharp.
  • 135-degree split point for accurate drilling.
  • Solid metal case with pop-out index trays

Cons

  • Not having a 3-way grip or grooves to help the bit during spinning, so the bit may fall if applied high torque
  • The drill index trays may fall out of the metal box if not opened carefully.

What do we like about Viking drills and tool bits?

The best thing about the Viking drill bit is its sharpness and cutting ability that sail through the hard metal and steel sheets like a hot knife in butter. In my personal opinion, I have found these bits very useful; I have used them several times, and the edges stay sharp even after multiple uses. Also, these bits can drill out hardened or broken bolts without breakage. Even though the bit set is quite expensive compared to other brands, but you’ll get what you pay for, so I bet you’ll throw out the Chinese harbor freight junk sets once you start using Viking drill bits.

Triumph has been another great USA-based company in the drill manufacturing industry for over 50 years. In 1978, there were 20 major manufacturers of twist drill bits in America; today, they’re only 4, and one of them is Triumph. As a local company, they have some 120 local employees, some of whom have been there for more than 30 years. The Triumph twist drill company, a division of Minnesota twist drill, has been operating with the same passion and providing excellent quality drill bits for over 50 years now.

In this made-in-USA drill bit review, I have included one of my favorite triumph twist drill bits; High-Speed Steel Drill Set 090517 T17   with Metal Index. It’s a general-purpose drilling bit set with a 118-degree split point and jobber length. There are generally two split points to be found in drill bits. One is 135 degrees, which is quite suitable for high-grade drilling into metals or stainless steel, and the other is a .118 degree cutting point suitable for cutting into softer materials such as wood or aluminum. Even though a 118-degree drill bit will work on hard metals, too, it may reduce your tool’s lifespan and become dull sooner. So, this Triumph drill bit has a 118-degree cutting point and a smaller chisel, and the jobber length drill bit has a straight shank without any flutes on it so that it can be used on a variety of materials. Another great feature is its bright high-speed steel finish, which is capable of tolerating high temperatures, and with the right speed, you can cut even steel without any problem. As the bit does not have reduced shank, you can easily use it with a 1/2inch drill. As these are made in the USA, don’t worry about their durability; they’ll last longer than any other imported Chinese junk.

Pros

  • They are made in USA- excellent quality drill bit.
  • Well packed in a metal index
  • 118-degree split point suitable for permissive surface – even goes good with steel when used with the right speed

Cons

  • Triumph bit Set is a bit expensive as compared to other made in USA brands

what do we like about Triumph drill bits?
You love the “good ol’ days” and can’t wait to get back to them. Well, this is the best way to celebrate those days. Made from premium materials, these drill bits will last forever. The tools are designed with pride in the USA, so they never need sharpening – you can take care of them, and your descendants will pass them down to their descendants! They are sharp, beautiful, and fun as hell!

Norseman Drill Bits 44170 Super Premium Jobber Drill Set (29 Piece)

Norseman Drill Bits 44170

Best for General purpose drilling

  • Construction Material: High speed steel
  • Coating: Gold oxide
  • Pieces per set: 29 bits
  • Storage case: Grey color metal case
  • Shank Type: Round
  • Size: 1/16″ to 1/2″
  • Split point: 135°
  • Best for stainless steel, hard surface

Norseman and Vikings are the same company; both have St. Paul (MN) facilities. Norseman is very well known compared to Viking’s tools and drill bits.

If you’re a homeowner, you already know the importance of having the best quality tools. Regarding drill bits, Norseman’s Ultra-High-Speed Steel bits are much more durable than other materials and cut more efficiently. These bits are made tough, so they can withstand the heat and pressure while drilling. They also use a high carbon content to give them a long-lasting edge which keeps cutting precise and consistent. They can withstand temperatures up to 1400 degrees Fahrenheit, so you will get your money’s worth and avoid having to replace your bits often.

You can do it faster when making holes in metal with this product. They feature a 135-degree split point for better results and durability. Also, these bits fulfill aerospace industry standard NAS 907B, which says the twist bits must have a 135 degree split point, no matter if it has M2 or M7 high-speed steel. According to Norseman, these bits maintain NAS standards, so they probably have M7 high-speed steel, which is superior to M2, so it’ll handle hard surfaces more conveniently.

Moreover, the Gold Oxide finish provides accurate speed and durability for general purpose drilling applications in wood, metal, and steel and stays sharp even after multiple usages.

Pros

  • The case is high quality and water-tight.

Cons

  • I do wish the sizes on the index case were highlighted.
  • No 3 flat shank

What do we like about Norseman drill bits?
I believe you will love these drill bits as much as I do. They are sharp, affordable, and of high quality.
As a contractor who works with steel and aluminum all day, these bits have cut through steel and aluminum posts without having to worry about melting them. The drill bit case is also water-tight, so it can be used in wet conditions or on the job site.

My verdict

So here ends my made-in-America drill bit review; now, you can use any of these quality bits with confidence that your money won’t go wasted. Even though each one of them will work best for any of your projects, be it around-the-house jobs, steel, or any other hard surface. Still, I like Noresman bits more than any other American-made bits because I have been using them for over three years now, and these are still sharp and work fine. Which one do you like the most?
